Maria felt under the weather for many days. Her best friend Lena wanted to help her. "You must keep your chin up," Lena said. But Maria wanted to give up and sleep all day.
Lena was planning a surprise birthday party for Maria. One day, Lena texted Maria about the decorations by accident. She let the cat out of the bag!
Maria read the message and understood everything. "I get the picture now," she texted back. She was not really upset. She was excited! But Lena told her the party was just a small dinner. Maria said okay and decided to be on the lookout for more clues about the real plan.
That evening, Maria went to the restaurant. She opened the door and stopped. The room was full of her friends and family! Colorful balloons hung from the ceiling. A long table had all her favorite foods. Everyone shouted "Surprise!"
Maria's face was very happy. She hugged Lena very tight. "I knew something was happening," she whispered. "Thank you for helping me not give up today." Lena smiled. She was happy the party was a success. Maria's sadness was gone. Now she felt only happiness and love for her wonderful friend.
